There is a nice sense of achievement when you’ve finally got a breeding group sorted. It takes time to select the right birds that are quality (or at least good) examples of the breed and to find the others, bred or acquired, homes. This weekend the last of the surplus Lady Amherst’s left leaving me my trio in the aviary:
Two hens, on left and bottom right, and the Cock top right.
One of the joys of being here is being able have a certain animal or breed… and a subsequent joy is that feeling once the group is complete. I feel so lucky to be here and to be able to have the Jersey Giants, Ayam Cemani, the Lemon Millefleur Sablepoots and my lovely (they are all lovely really!) group of pet chickens who are all different breeds; Welsh Harlequin ducks and Miniature Silver Appleyards; the rare West of England geese; the ornamental waterfowl. And dog, two cats and the kitten. Still room for rescue ponies or goats when the time is right but for now, very happy with the birds and the groups I have sorted or managed to acquire.
